FAQ

Questions we get most often.

Short answers to the things travellers ask us before, during and after a flight. Each one links to a longer guide where it matters.

Do you sell flights or book travel?

No. We publish guidance only. We do not sell flights, hotels, transfers or insurance, and we cannot change, cancel or refund a booking made elsewhere.

How early should I get to the airport?

Two hours before a short-haul departure and three before a long-haul one is the safe default. Add time for large hub airports, peak holiday periods, and if you are checking bags or need document checks at the desk.

What are the liquid rules in hand luggage?

Many airports still require containers of 100ml or less in a single clear resealable bag. Airports with newer CT scanners have relaxed this, but the rule is set locally, so check both your departure and connecting airports.

How long should a connection be?

For a domestic connection on one ticket, 60 minutes is usually workable. For international, aim for 90 minutes or more, and at least two to three hours if you change terminal, clear immigration or re-check bags.

My flight was delayed — am I owed compensation?

It depends on the jurisdiction, the length of the delay and the cause. Weather and air traffic control events usually remove the compensation obligation but not the airline's duty to provide care. See our delay guide for how to approach a claim.

What do I do if my bag does not arrive?

File a property irregularity report before you leave the airport, keep a copy of the reference number, photograph your bag tag, and notify your insurer. Our missing baggage guide walks through the sequence.

Does my passport need to be valid for six months?

Many countries require validity of three or six months beyond your departure date, and some also require blank pages. Check the destination's rules for your specific nationality before booking.

Is travel insurance really necessary?

For any trip involving medical risk, expensive prepaid bookings or tight connections, yes. The single event that justifies it — a hospital admission abroad — costs far more than every policy you will ever buy.

How do you keep your guides accurate?

We write from operational sources such as conditions of carriage, airport authority documents and passenger-rights regulations, review pages on a rolling schedule, and correct promptly when readers report errors.

Can I reuse your content?

You may share and quote with attribution and a link. Republishing at scale or commercial reuse needs written permission — see the Terms of Use.
